The Brief:

Hull College needed more space for students studying a sport curriculum. As part of the Authoritie’s plan to remodel their education estate, additional spaces were generated at the former Hull Trinity House Academy site.

The Solution:

Esteem developed and delivered a construction project, in conjunction with their supply partner Houlton, creating a new learning space and gym for Hull College students, on a site which had formerly been occupied by a school on a site adjacent to their existing campus.

The project included a new build extension which provided two classrooms, a dedicated gym and incorporated the existing changing facilities and sports hall for use by the College’s students studying a sports curriculum.

The Challenges:

The site was located off a busy road in Hull City Centre, so access was difficult. On top of this, other separate construction and infrastructure works were happening nearby, requiring close communication and coordination with the other contractors to ensure both projects could complete successfully.

Works on-site were suspended for short periods as the sports hall was used for examinations by the College. This suspension avoided any disruption or noise affecting the concentration of the students at that critical time.

The new facilities were handed over ensuring the gym was ready for when the students returned by relocating all the existing gym equipment into the new facility.

The Results:

The project was delivered in time for the college to start using it when students returned after the October half term holidays, giving the college new facilities to enhance the experience of sports and exercise students.
