The Brief:

Hull’s Sirius Academy West had a larger than normal amount of pupils registered to join Year 7, so needed to create more teaching space for students. Through a complicated chain of modular relocations, Esteem was able to give the school the space they needed.

The Solution:

In September 2023, Hull Trinity House Academy moved to the refurbished Endeavour building. Whilst the year-long refurbishment had been taking place, modular units were used to provide additional teaching space at Trinity House Academy.

After the relocation of Hull Trinity House Academy into the Endeavour building, the modular units were no longer required.

In order to accommodate the additional pupils at Sirius Academy West, it was suggested that the surplus modular units at the former Trinity site be relocated to Sirius Academy West to house the school’s administrative teams and free up much needed teaching space within the main building. An area within the school’s grounds was identified to locate the units, and the solution was agreed.

Esteem managed development and delivery of the scheme, seeing the modular building removed from one school and transported across the city to be reinstalled at Sirius Academy West.

The Challenges:

Challenges of this project included:

  • Decommissioning of the modular building on the Hull Trinity House Academy site.
  • Managing work safely on live school sites.
  • Coordinating crane/lifting operations to ensure minimal disruption.

The Results:

This project is not just about moving a modular building across the city. It is about Hull’s schools working together to provide the best learning environment for students, whilst ensuring resources are used to their fullest.
