Expansion works to Malet Lambert began in January 2022, which will increase the number of places at the secondary school by 150.
The site has been added to and amended since the original block was constructed, with the current configuration being completed in September 2012 under the Building Schools for the Future programme (BSF) of works.
In response to the city’s overall demand for secondary school places, and the schools increased popularity, works will increase the overall size of the school to accommodate more students.
At Malet Lambert the work includes a new large indoor multi-use area, to provide more capacity during lunchtimes and exam periods, along with an increase to indoor sporting facilities allowing pupils access to more sports. There will also be five new classrooms, a new staff room and additional pupil toilets.
External works will also include new parking spaces, cycle racks and associated footpaths to improve access to the site.
Geo Houlton & Sons Ltd has been appointed to carry out the work based on their delivery of similar educational schemes across Hull on behalf of Esteem, including Kelvin Hall Academy, St Mary’s College, Hull Trinity House Academy and the current live programme at Sirius Academy North. Completion is expected in August 2022, ready for pupils to start the new school year in September.
The expansion to Malet Lambert forms part of a £50m investment to increase pupil places, choice and provide outstanding learning environments for children.
