Improvements to Hull’s Bude Park playing fields are well underway despite being hampered at the beginning of last year by the extremely wet weather, with the scheme planning to upgrade and improve the drainage to the existing football pitches along with the construction of a new changing pavilion.
Works to the playing pitches are now complete with all of the playing surface being seeded; a newly constructed swale will help prevent flooding of the site, capturing the water from the pitch drainage along with excess surface water and storing it before gradually being discharged through the water network and drains.
Construction has now begun on the new pavilion, which will include modern, comfortable changing rooms for teams, as well as referee facilities, toilets, showers, and a kitchen which can serve hot drinks and snacks.
The project is due to be completed in May 2025.
In the spring, we’ll be looking at getting the local community and schools involved to help with the biodiversity of the site by planting appropriate plants and trees – watch this space to find out how to get involved or would like to support the project.
Hull City Council and Hull Esteem are delivering the project, with funding support from the Football Foundation.
We spoke to members of the local community that will benefit from the new facility.
