Foundations Live took place this winter with over 1,000 students and 73 exhibitors in attendance to find out more about opportunities in the construction industry.
The Foundations initiative was initially developed by our construction partner Hobson and Porter in 2012, aimed at creating a sustainable workforce for the construction industry. It includes an apprenticeship scheme, site management development scheme and work placement programme, which have seen a number of young people learn a variety of skills from grassroots level. The scheme also offers ‘Maths in Construction’ workshops to schools, aimed at inspiring young people aged 5-18 to think about careers in construction by showing how they can apply their maths skills in a practical way in the industry.
Foundations Live brings these principles into an event space at Bishop Burton College. From primary school pupils through to adults retraining, the event showcases what the industry has to offer and how it will face the challenge of an ever-present skills shortage. The event follows the lifecycle of the construction site, from conception through to completion. It’s a great way for people of all ages to find out about the great variety of career options in the industry, where they can train and how it can be funded.
