The summer of 2024 saw pupils from St Thomas More Academy take part in the first outdoor swimming lesson in Hulls newly rebuilt outdoor lido for over 30 years.

The St Thomas More Academy was one of the winning entries of a duck competition linked to the national “Drowning Prevention Week” where schools form around the City partook in the decoration of rubber ducks with safety messages to raise awareness of the importance of learning to swimming and safety around water. The swimming event sponsored by Hobson & Porter was arranged to celebrate the reopening of the pools after a multi-million-pound refurbishment.

The extensive investment and refurbishment of the facility includes not only the new outdoor lido and splash pad, but also a 60-station fitness gym, brand new fitness studio, and refurbishment of the full interior, including changing rooms and reception area.

The project was undertaken by construction firm Hobson and Porter and delivered through the Esteem partnership in conjunction with Hull City Council.
