We’re currently working on a number of projects aimed at addressing the shortfall of places in the city for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Esteem has produced a SEND Sufficiency Strategy for the city, identifying the need for more variety of learning environments so that SEND children can get the best possible learning experience.
Several projects were completed throughout 2024 which include the repurposing and refurbishment of class bases at Dorchester Primary School in North Hull, and St Mary’s College to provide additional places for students with SEND whilst development of a further three opportunities was progressed on projects scheduled for delivery within 2025.
The Rising Stars project was developed through 2024 and reached Financial Close in December 2024 allowing works to strip out the existing asbestos to commence ahead of the Christmas break. The works, which will involve classroom creation through the remodelling of an existing void space include the update of the Mechanical and Electrical installations and refurbishment in the internal space. Works will take place at the Rising Stars site on the grounds of Francis Askew Primary School, with the main construction works commencing January and completion anticipated Easter 2025.
Additionally, following the receipt of Stage 1 Approval, development is now fully underway on projects at Ganton Secondary School and The Boulevard Academy.
Both schemes will see the installation of purpose-built modular buildings on each of the sites to provide space for SEND pupils to have their own dedicated part of the school.
Combined, these projects will see the provision of an additional 70 pupil places in the city. Projects are programmed for delivery by the new academic year commencing September 2025.
