Work is to begin at the former Endeavour site on Beverley Road to transform the building into a fully refurbished secondary school.
Hull Trinity House Academy, run by Delta Academy Trust, will move to the site from September 2023, and this has enable them to increase their Year 7 intake from 120 pupils to 240. This will also mean the Academy will become a co-educational school for the first time.
Starting from Monday 1 August, phase one of the works will see the internal strip out and service disconnections, as well as minor remodelling. Phase two will commence in the autumn when the dining hall will be extended and the main building will be refurbished, bringing the site up to date as a modern, fit for purpose secondary school.
Councillor Linda Tock, Portfolio Holder for children’s services said: “Making sure Hull’s children get the best possible education is one of the most important things we can do.
“That’s why I’m pleased to see work starting to deliver much-needed secondary school places for the city and provide more choice for families.
“Hull Trinity House is an important part of the city’s culture and history. They offer specialised opportunities for young people. This refurbishment means more young people will be able to take advantage of those opportunities. When the refurbishment is complete, I hope that the site will provide an excellent learning environment.”
Paul Tarn CEO of Delta Academies Trust said: “Hull Trinity House Academy has a long and proud tradition of offering an exceptional quality of education. Governors at Hull Trinity House Academy and the Trust are delighted that, for the first time in its history, the school will be opening its doors to girls as well as boys.
“To facilitate and enhance this, the Trust will invest a significant amount of capital to make this an exceptional place to study.
“The Trust is delighted to be working in partnership with the Local Authority on this exciting project.”
The project is being delivered by Hull Esteem Consortium. Sewell Construction has been appointed to complete the works.
Gavin Barley, Esteem’s General Manager said: “We’re looking forward to working in partnership with Hull City Council and Sewell Construction once again, and things are moving quickly to start works on bringing the former Endeavour building back to life.
“This will make way for the well-established Hull Trinity House Academy to move in, creating unique opportunities for the city’s young people. The Endeavour building was purpose-built for secondary education and includes some great facilities for the Academy’s existing and future students.”
