The Brief:

Endeavour School was originally built as a secondary school but had closed due to the falling pupil numbers in 2015. Since then, it had been used as a base for Hull City Council agencies, including Hull Training & Adult Education and Learning & Development.

In recent years, Hull Trinity House Academy had outgrown their current building, and wanted to increase their pupil numbers and expand on their c0-ed. The old Endeavour building required an extensive remodelling and refurbishment to make it fit for purpose as a secondary school once again.

The Solution:

As the building had originally been used as a secondary school, the layout did not require much internal modification. A small extension was required to the rear of the facility to provide an extended dining space, and much of the work needed was mechanical and electrical upgrades and finishes to bring it back to life.

  • All mechanical and electrical services stripped out and reinstalled, including a new ventilation system.
  • Extension to the dining room to accommodate additional pupils and improve the dining experience
  • Refurbishment of all rooms, including new ceilings, flooring, carpets, decoration, and doors.
  • New furniture for specialist rooms, e.g., science and technology labs and IT suites
  • Bespoke kitchen equipment
  • Large media screen in the hall

The Challenges:

  • Large building, with hundreds of rooms
  • Tight deadline – the school needed to be in by the start of the new academic year
  • Managing and engaging with many stakeholders and partners – including the school, the council, contractors, and local residents

The Results:

Hull Trinity House Academy were able to move in on time at the start of the new school year, into a bright, modern, fit-for-purpose school building.

The new school will enable them to double their pupil numbers, from 600 to well over 1,000 students, whilst minimising the effect on the environment by utilising an existing building, rather than a new build.

Through coordinating and managing all the partners involved, the Esteem team have used their experience of educational projects to deliver an amazing school building that will enable hundreds more Hull students to be educated at this unique and successful school.
