Albert Avenue Pools and Fitness, including a new outdoor lido and splash pad, fitness gym and class studio, has reopened to the public.

Following extensive investment and indoor transformation, the West Hull facility welcomed users back from Friday 25 August at 9.30am for the first time since its closure in October 2021. Free swimming sessions in the lido were available for anyone attending on the first day.

The centre now boasts a 60-station fitness gym which contains brand new cardio and resistance machines, Olympic free weights equipment and a functional fitness rig including a resistance sled, providing customers with a fantastic strength and cardio workout.

A brand-new fitness studio contains an immersive virtual fitness experience where customers will be able to enjoy hundreds of classes on screen. In addition, the studio will host cardio, core and holistic fitness classes in an environment which can be tailored for the type of session taking place.

Outdoors the lido has been completely refurbished and repurposed for outdoor swimming and water play and will be heated seasonally from May through to September with the lido heated to an average of 28 degrees celsius. This year will see the pool heating extended through to October for residents to enjoy the outdoor swim experience.

The lido will continue to be in use throughout the year by a number of clubs including Kingston Kayak Club and Humberside Water Polo Club.

“The council is always committed to delivering for residents right across the city.

“Now, after investment, we’ll see a facility for thousands of residents across the city and beyond to be able to enjoy the revamped Albert Avenue.

“The new works done here are a real improvement for Albert Avenue and will benefit so many people across the city.

“We’re delighted to be able to welcome people back to the centre just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.”

James Prest, Project Manager for Hull Esteem, said;

“The transformation of Albert Avenue Pools has been a fantastic project to be part of. Working in partnership with the council, our contractors Hobson & Porter and the local supply chain to develop this much loved facility into a vibrant modern leisure centre that the people of Hull can enjoy for years to come has been an absolute pleasure.

“Not only does it see the outdoor lido reopen after many years, but the new gym and fitness studio creates more space for people to use and stay active. We can’t wait to see it back in use.”
